Photo suite 53 -- Boa viagem!

On New Year's Day 2012, we were in Santarem, Brazil, several hundred miles up the Amazon.  I began a year of  "photo suites," collections of related pictures that seemed to say more in chorus than they could say alone.  I've had so much fun with this project that I will be continuing it next year.

Meanwhile, back in Brazil, the mighty river is the main transportation artery for the entire region.  Hundreds of little boats go back and forth carrying passengers and cargo.  On the dock in Santarem, you can buy a ticket for any place you want, with your choice of competing carriers.

As the year is about to end, and a new one awaits just around the bend, I wish you boa viagem for all your future voyages, whether in reality or in your imagination.

  2. And how did you decide?
I was in Brazil in 1973! In Belem. The Amazon is so huge, especially at the mouth of the river.

We did take a coach journey to Vianopolis - near Anopolis down towards Brasilia. That was an experience. The toilet on the bus was just a hole onto the dirt road. the red dirt was in everything in your suitcase in the under the coach compartments!LOL

PS we were told Brazil was the land of tomorrow....because whatever business you wanted to arrange the response was always amanhã.

  3. Sandy -- we were traveling on a ship so our only decision was to get back on board in time. We then went to Manaus, where we turned around and went back to the Atlantic.

Since it was New Year's Day none of these booths were open for business. Fortunately the bar was, so we sat in the shade and drank beer.

  4. It's been fun to see what groupings you came up with. Some I recognized, but many were impessive as to your imaginativeness in terms of categorization. I'm delighted the suites will continue. Alles Gute fuer 2013!
